2] Engine Modification
Cutting the chassis, welding it with extra metal or reshaping it in any way is illegal. Many custom motorcycle makers cut and weld the chassis to transform the motorcycle beyond recognition.
Modifying the chassis disturbs the integrity of the motorcycle and the RTO sees it as a dangerous vehicle that can harm you or other people on road. Modifying chassis is a strict no unless, you want to carry the motorcycle on a trailer and show it to friends and come back home.
4] extra wheel
The RC of your vehicle is a legal document and it mentions all the information of your motorcycle. If it says two-wheels, then make sure that you do not change it to three wheels or get a side-car for fun. Conversions to trike or getting a side-car is prohibited by law.
There are certain rules for the disabled riders, who can get extra wheels for support but that has to be approved by the RTO and the same will be mentioned in the new RC. Conversion to trike is also prohibited by law and can land your vehicle in RTO for a long time.
5] Alternate fuel
If it is not a college project and you are planning to ride on public roads with your newly engineered electric conversion kit, beware, you can lose your motorcycle. There are many conversion kits available in the market that can convert your loving motorcycle to alternate fuel like CNG, LPG or can make it electric altogether to lower the riding cost.
in this Article i give a tips to modified your bike legally in India
Can you legally modify a motorcycles in India?
Yes, but it’s a long process. You can get it approved by ARAI and then get it entered on the Registration Certificate, which is a very tedious and long process. Another way is to add features that do not interfere with the structure of the motorcycle. For example, you can add auxiliary lamps and a remote locking system but you cannot add a performance sprocket or change the handlebar of the motorcycle.
Also, you can change color of the bike by adding a vinyl but repainting the vehicle to a different color is again illegal and has to be endorsed on the RC by the local RTO. As these strict rules restrict the creativity of modifying houses, there should be new rules that help such modifiers in India. Customization is a big marketplace in many international countries.
If India can regulate the modifications and put a simpler process of getting the modifications approved, it will go a long way towards enhancing the automotive culture of the country.
1] Exhaust change
The number of stares a motorcycle gets when it guns through traffic making that high-pitch noise may give you few hair-raising experiences but to burst the bubble, such modifications are not legal.
exhaust that is not bent downwards more than 30 degree not protruding out and below 90 db are legal
Most affordable motorcycle exhausts are free flow and to install them, the catalytic converter, that saves the environment from the harmful emissions of your motorcycle.
Installing free flow exhaust also increases the noise from the exhaust. The after affects of a free flow exhaust is far deeper than the gains. The loud noise and increase in emission will get your motorcycle seized by the police or RTO. Sadly, they don’t make exhaust system for most regular affordable motorcycles.
A motorcycle has many other things than the engine. These extra things like the exhaust system has been tuned perfectly to work with the particular engine. Many motorcycle modifiers change the displacement of the engine by boring the cylinder for extra power. Also, there other modifications like increasing the nozzle size of the carburetor to put in extra fuel and replacing the stock air-filter with a new one.
Such modifications are under the shell and hard to spot but if you have changed the engine specification from what is mentioned in your RC, you will be in big trouble. Engine modifications are not allowed at all and only way to make it road legal is by taking the motorcycle to ARAI.
The engine can be changed, but it requires prior permission from the RTO. If the protocols are not followed, the vehicle’s registration can be cancelled.
3] chassis modification Cutting the chassis, welding it with extra metal or reshaping it in any way is illegal.

The red light is also an universal sign of warning or distress. Changing the red light of your brake can give wrong information to the other motorists and a major accident can happen.
while changing color of pilot lamps are ok as long as they are not a combination of red and blue its not ok to change the color of indicators brake light numberplate light etc
